Eintracht Frankfurt savouring 'special' Rangers occasion after rebuild left boss stunned

Eintracht Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner says his team will savour their Europa League date with destiny against Rangers – as they didn't expect it.

Few would have predicted the Scottish Premiership runners-up and the Bundesliga's 11th-placed outfit would be contesting this year's final in Seville.

But that's exactly what will play out this week and hundreds of thousands of fans will descend upon Spain to watch their respective clubs in showpiece action.

Their domestic campaign started off the back of a player and staff overhaul and that's shown in their lower mid-table finish.

In Europe they have been a different beast, knocking out Barcelona and West Ham United en-route to the Final.

They haven't won this tournament since 1980 and Glasner says it would be a special achievement to lift it against Rangers after everything Frankfurt have accomplished this term.

He told Eintracht's club media: "I think we have had a lot of special moments. I could talk about every game. We had our great win in Barcelona and we won both games against a Premier League team.

"The most special moment will be the Final. When we started, I didn't expect the end of this journey would be the Final.

"I now hope the trophy is the end. After a tough summer, we had a lot of new players, totally new staff.

"It took several months to find a common philosophy of playing.

"Compliment to the players, they work hard in every game and training session. They now have the reward of a final."
