Edinson Cavani's troubled season at Manchester United explained amid uncertain future

Edinson Cavani's season at Manchester United has been a frustrating one to say the very least. Arriving here from PSG back in October 2020, the former Napoli man enjoyed a super first season at the club, finding the net 19 times in 39 appearances during the 20/21 campaign.

Fast forward to his current season and you are given a very different picture. Spending the majority of the campaign out of the side with persistent injury problems to both his Achilles tendon and groin, the 35-year-old is clearly heading towards the latter part of his career, where niggles are much harder to shake off.

It comes as no surprise really, but again shows a failure in direction for United in their striker department, given Anthony Martial was shipped out on loan during the January window. Cristiano Ronaldo has been asked to do the majority of the leg work despite now being 37, with Marcus Rashford also enduring a particularly barren spell at present too.

With the Reds now entering a crucial part of their campaign, as their quest for UEFA Champions League football goes on, it is also worth noting Cavani is once more injured at present, due to a calf problem he sustained whilst recently on international duty with Uruguay.

Starting just seven of the Reds 41 games so far this season, the forward has endured multiple injury problems that have forced him to watch on from the sidelines.
