Ederson, Haaland, Akanji - Man City injury news and return dates ahead of Tottenham fixture

Manchester City may be thankful they have more than a week of rest before they next take to the field given the number of injuries they are managing.

The Blues are away at a training camp in Abu Dhabi as their domestic game takes a winter pause. City next travel to Tottenham in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Friday, January 26 at a ground and team where they have struggled to earn a result over recent years.

Indeed Pep Guardiola jokingly said his new year’s resolution is to score an away goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He will hope the gap in time until the game will give enough opportunity for key players to follow Kevin De Bruyne and Jeremy Doku in returning to the fold.

What we know: Ederson was forced off in the first half of the win away at Newcastle due to an issue with his leg. The injury looked muscular but the nature of his setback has not yet been clarified. Guardiola is hopeful the goalkeeper will be ready in time for Tottenham, although Stefan Ortega is the cup shot-stopper meaning Ederson’s next appearance might not come until the Premier League clash with Burnley on January 31.

Potential return date: January 26

Injury: Foot

What we know: Haaland was told not to train by medical staff last week and so consequently sat out the win at Newcastle. He has not played for more than a month now, despite Guardiola initially hoping he would be back for December’s Club World Cup. He will instead likely be targeting a February return.
