Man City get Erling Haaland boost during Premier League break

Erling Haaland was back in training on Tuesday as the Manchester City striker looks to return from injury.

City's No.9 has not played for his team since early November after suffering a stress injury in his foot that has forced him out of the last nine matches. Despite attempts to return earlier in the month, Haaland was forced to stop training the week before the Newcastle game and also missed the early sessions with the team out in Abu Dhabi.

There will be no timeframe put on the Norwegian's return given the complexity of the injury but it is a step in the right direction for him to be back on the pitch with his teammates. Pep Guardiola will be asked for an update on the striker when he addresses the media on Thursday ahead of the FA Cup game against Tottenham on Friday night.

City round off the month with a home fixture against Burnley in the Premier League and then head to Brentford - the only top-flight team Haaland has played against but not scored against - in the first week of February. Guardiola will be wary of rushing his striker back but has not hidden how much City have missed their top scorer while he has been out.

"When you are injured at the end of November, you miss a lot of games. And we missed him," he said earlier this month. "We need him. Hopefully he can come back and play the last four or five months without a problem."

Kevin De Bruyne has made his return to the team this month after being sidelined since August with a hamstring problem, while John Stones took some part in training at the weekend for the first time since his latest injury in December.
