Eden Hazard: Ex-Chelsea star’s commentary of his solo goal vs Arsenal in 2017 is comedy gold

Eden Hazard was sent an ominous message by Carlo Ancelotti in Real Madrid’s Thursday night loss to Atletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey.

The Belgian forward was overlooked by the Italian manager, whose side offered very little going forward in the match and were largely outplayed by their hosts, who scored in the 89th minute to steal a 1-0 win.

This will be the first time in nearly 12 years that both Barcelona and Real Madrid will be absent from the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey.

But the fallout from the loss was compounded further by what appears to be a deterioration in the relationship between Ancelotti and Hazard, giving greater strength to the rumours, per 90min, that the 31-year-old could be on his way out of the club.

After warming up to take the field, Hazard was sent back to the bench by his coach, much to the hilarity of Gareth Bale, who was videoed laughing at Hazard walking back to the dugout.

Since moving to the club in 2019 in a landmark £139 million move from Chelsea, the Belgian’s time at Madrid has been anything but inspiring, scoring just six goals in 61 appearances for the club.

Compare that to his record at Stamford Bridge, where he yielded 110 goals and 92 assists over 352 games and it’s clear that the 31-year-old has failed to live up to the heights he achieved during his time in England.

Chelsea fans will fondly remember many of those goals, including his famous solo goal against Arsenal during the 2016/17 season.

The virtuoso effort would go on to be voted the Premier League’s goal of the month for February that season and on the fifth anniversary of that goal, a video has been posted on Twitter of Hazard hilariously providing his own match commentary on the exceptional piece of play.
