Eden Hazard admission puts damper on Chelsea, Newcastle chase for Real Madrid flop
Midfielder Eden Hazard has hinted that he will not be leaving Real Madrid in the near future for a return to the Premier League.
The 31-year-old joined the LaLiga giants in June 2019 after seven successful seasons with Chelsea. The Belgium international notched 110 goals from 352 appearances in all competitions and picked up six major trophies. He claimed two Premier League titles while winning an FA Cup and EFL Cup winner’s medal.
The Champions League eluded him but he was part of two Europa Cup-winning sides at Stamford Bridge. Much was expected of the former Lille ace after Los Blancos forked out an initial €100m for his signature.
But a combination of injuries plus a dip in form means it has been far from a happy stay to Spain. Hazard has scored only six goals from 66 outings in all competitions and looked a shadow of the player who terrorised Premier League defences.
The man with 33 Belgium goals has been linked with a return to English football. Newcastle United were mentioned in connection with the star while Arsenal and West Ham are also thought to be keen.
But it is his previous connection to Chelsea that has seen rumours grow of a return to west London. However, ahead of Saturday’s Champions League final clash with Liverpool, Hazard appeared to pledge his future to the club.
