Eddie Jones recalls exiled pair of Billy Vunipola and Danny Care for squad to tour Australia

England head coach Eddie Jones has brought back the exiled pair of Billy Vunipola and Danny Care in his 36-man squad to tour Australia.

Jones has not selected either Billy or his brother Mako since the 2021 Six Nations but has brought back both Vunipolas for the three-Test series against the Wallabies. No 8 Vunipola delivered a strong performance for Saracens in the Premiership final against Leicester. Despite appearing to suffer a concussion in the closing stages, Vunipola has been included as the only specialist No 8 in the 36-man squad.

Care had already returned to squad to face the Barbarians on Sunday after four years in the cold and has remained in the touring party in the absence of Ben Youngs, who has not been selected in the wake of his sister in law, Tiffany, passing away recently. Loosehead prop Joe Marler will also remain home while there is no space in the squad for the Saracens pair of Elliot Daly and Max Malins.

There are eight uncapped players in the squad, including London Irish flier Henry Arundell who is listed as an apprentice alongside Will Joseph, the younger brother of former England centre Jonathan.

Perhaps the most leftfield selection is that of Leicester centre Guy Porter, who is English born but spent most of his career playing in Australia. Leicester teammate Jack van Poortvliet is included as a third scrum half behind Care and Harry Randall with the Northampton pair of Tommy Freeman, who was one of the few players to impress in the 52-21 defeat to the Barbarians, and Fraser Dingwall also coming in. Exeter prop Patrick Schickerling and Harlequins hooker Jack Walker, who both featured against the Barbarians, also make the cut.

Jones is missing ten players through injury and is under pressure
