Eddie Jones: England coach involved in angry confrontation with Australian fan

England coach Eddie Jones was involved in an angry confrontation with a Wallabies fan who referred to him as a “traitor” during the Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Saturday.

Video footage appeared on social media showing Jones being goaded by a man wearing a Wallabies cap while holding a pint of beer.

The fan points a finger at Jones and says “you’re a traitor” twice, which provokes an angry reaction.

Jones then walks towards the stands and replies “come here and say it” three times and the surprised spectator retreats before a member of the ground’s security staff escorts the England coach away.

The security guard then turns to the fan and says “I have spoken to you before”.

Australian Jones coached the Wallabies from 2001 to 2005 and it is understood that he was subjected to aggressive abuse while walking to and from the coach’s box at the SCG where he had to walk through parts of the crowd.

The Sydney Morning Herald asked Jones about the incident with the spectator to which he replied: “Clowns think they have full go to abuse coaches.”

After England’s 25-17 victory over Australia in the second Test in Brisbane, Jones said he enjoyed silencing Australians, although it is understood that he did not have to endure the same level of abuse at the Suncorp Stadium.

“You have got 48,000 people all full of drink and all they want to see is their team win. When you turn them away, it’s a great experience. A great feeling,” he said.
