Eddie Howe's stance on Newcastle transfer "revolution" amid "busy" summer plans
Eddie Howe has ruled out a summer transfer “revolution” at Newcastle - but says he will be "busy".
The head coach is playing down the chance of a massive spending spree to build on the £94million splashed on five stars in January. Howe has led the Geordies to Premier League safety with a stunning run of form of ten wins in 15 games that was given a reality check by Liverpool at the weekend.
Newcastle are expected to be in the market for a quick goal-scoring striker, a central midfielder and a left-back at least, but must also trigger a squad clear-out while rebuilding. With no chief executive yet in place, and future director of football Dan Ashworth being held to a notice period by Brighton and on gardening leave, Howe says he WILL have a busy summer off the field researching deals.
But a vital part of his plan for United means keeping a strong core of players to run his dressing room, and only signing big names who will fit a team ethos as well as bringing individual flair. Only then will his Newcastle squad be greater than the sum of their parts and challenge for a firm top-half finish next term.
Howe said: “We hope a busy summer, the pressure is on us to do that. But it certainly won't be a revolution. We've got a good core group of players who we hope can take us a long way."
