Eddie Howe outlines Newcastle United plan to stop in-form Manchester United star Marcus Rashford

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe admits Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford will cause problems for his side if the Magpies do not defend properly against him.

Rashford has been a standout performer in the Premier League and beyond this season, netting 30 goals for club and country including one against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final. However, there are one or two question marks over his fitness after Rashford missed the international break.

Erik ten Hag confirmed during his pre-match press conference that he hopes to have in-form Rashford at his disposal at St James' Park on Sunday, but there is also chance he could miss out as United contend with several injury concerns.

Having sat out Euro 2024 qualifiers against Italy and Ukraine to recover from a knock, Rashford trained this week and Howe is aware of the threat posed by the striker, and any potential replacements.

Speaking to Chronicle Live during his press conference, Howe said: "Certainly he's a hugely talented player. We need to be aware that if he plays he has real strengths. He can give us problems if we don't defend them well enough.

"We will be aware of him but, as I say, if he doesn't play they have other players who can come in and do equally as good a job."
