Newcaslte United manager Eddie Howe has made it clear he will not discuss Saudi Arabia's human rights record, a day after the state confirmed they had carried out 81 executions.

The Magpies had their takeover signed off in October of last year as the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia pledged their immense wealth to the club.

Newcastle ’s ownership has been fiercely opposed ever since initial reports linked PIF with the Premier League club, with the country’s human rights record placed under the microscope.

And that opposition grew louder over the weekend after the Saudi Interior Ministry confirmed 81 individuals had been executed, with offences ranging from joining militant groups to holding “deviant beliefs”.

A statement read: "These individuals, totalling 81, were convicted of various crimes including murdering innocent men, women and children.

"Crimes committed by these individuals also include pledging allegiance to foreign terrorist organisations, such as ISIS (Islamic State), al-Qaeda and the Houthis."
