Ebbsfleet United midfielder Finlay Barnes wants to create FA Cup magic with Ebbsfleet United after previously starring for Scarborough Athletic
Midfielder Finlay Barnes is hoping to make more FA Cup memories with Ebbsfleet.
The 24-year-old is aiming to be part of the Fleet side that hosts National League Solihull Moors in the fourth qualifying round this Saturday.
“We’ll go into that game with a lot of confidence,” said Barnes. “We know we’ve got a good side, with a lot of good players.
“I think being at home as well makes a difference. We’ve done well at home and it’s obviously a lovely pitch.
“The fans will get behind us and we’ll be ready for that one.
“I’d love to make some more FA Cup memories here. I know a couple of the boys in this side have had some massive Premier League ties so it would be great to do that one day.
“We’ll take each game as it comes, we’ll work on the opposition this week and see how we can win the game.”
Barnes was part of the Scarborough Athletic side that faced Forest Green three times in the first round of the FA Cup two years ago.
The sides drew 1-1 in the original tie before then-League 2 side Forest Green won the replay 5-2. But they fielded an ineligible player so the sides had to meet for a third time, with Forest Green triumphing 4-2.
“The first game we had them at home and we were 1-0 up but they equalised in the last minute and it went to a replay,” said Barnes.
“We played them away and lost 4-2 but we played really well. I think we were 1-0 up, so we were really in the game.
“But then we had to play them again, it was really weird. That one was back at our place and we lost that quite narrowly as well.
“I got a couple of assists in the games but didn’t score unfortunately. They obviously had maybe a little bit of sharpness over us but we had a really good side at Scarborough and played well over the games.”
