Ebbsfleet United manager Josh Wright reacts to 1-0 National League South win at home to Tonbridge Angels on Boxing Day
Ebbsfleet boss Josh Wright was thrilled to see his side earn maximum reward despite not being near their best on Boxing Day.
The Fleet struggled to break down a determined Tonbridge side at Stonebridge Road before Dominic Samuel scored the winner with 11 minutes left at Stonebridge Road.
But, having failed to get three points in games they’ve dominated, Wright was pleased to see the tables turned to some extent.
“In a weird way, it's quite refreshing to not be at our best but get three points because there's been too many occasions this season where we've been good and we haven't got what we deserve,” stated Wright.
“It's all good and well saying that you deserve this and deserve that, but life doesn't work like that, football doesn't. I'd probably say that's the first time this season that we haven't been at our best.
“I'm not going to sit here and say that we didn't deserve something out the game or all the three points out the game, but in terms of our performance on the eye, we weren't quite at it.
“Thinking back to my playing days, (it had) a boxing day feel. We were a little bit laboured and a little bit sluggish but I think that's a credit to Alan Dunne and his team.
“It's on record that I know Dunne very well. He's a great character, a really good person, had a fantastic career at Millwall and he sets his team up very well.
“There's a reason why they've got the fourth-best away record in the league. They've got some threats on the turnover, and we had to be very careful and play a smart game.
“Three points are three points. Sometimes, like last week (at Chelmsford), it was an ugly three points, and sometimes you get three points when you're not at your best.
