Ebbsfleet United manager Josh Wright reacts to 3-1 National League South defeat at Enfield Town

Ebbsfleet manager Josh Wright felt his team looked “soft” in their midweek loss at Enfield Town.

The Fleet lacked a cutting edge in attack and gifted a host of opportunities at the other end as the hosts deservedly took maximum points.

A disappointed Wright didn’t hold back with an honest assessment of the Fleet’s display.

Experienced defender Tom Dallison came off injured early on but the Fleet boss wasn’t looking for excuses.

“I told the boys before the game that these are the ones that matter, these games, the biggest game of our season,” explained Wright.

“I said it’s all about mindset, rolling your sleeves up, coming to a tough place in terms of the expectations, their different style of play in terms of they're quite direct.

“The game was all about missed chances and then giving away horrendous goals.

“There's been a softness at this football club over the last couple of years that I wanted to take away, and that's exactly what we've been doing.

“So, to concede three - and we could have conceded a lot more - is what's making me really angry right now.

“At the same time, we should have been one up in 30 seconds, and then the kid sticks it in our top corner from outside the box.

“We've been really good defensively with set plays, whether it be corners, free-kicks, long throw-ins, but tonight wasn't us.

“We can stand here and make excuses that this one's injured, that one's injured, but we looked soft for the first time. We can go back to Hampton and the fact we conceded three goals, but we thoroughly deserved something that day but tonight we looked soft, we looked soft in both boxes, and in both boxes is what wins you football games and what makes you successful.
