‘Easy scapegoat’ Maguire must ‘fight’ for his Man Utd future – Carragher
Jamie Carragher thinks Harry Maguire is an “easy scapegoat” but the Man Utd and England defender needs to “fight for his future”.
Maguire joined Man Utd for around £85m from Leicester City a couple of years ago. The defender impressed early on but he has struggled this term.

The 29-year-old has still performed well for England in the meantime though. Despite this, he was booed by a section of fans before Tuesday night’s friendly against the Ivory Coast.

The Three Lions won 3-0 and after the game, Gareth Southgate insisted that the treatment of Maguire was an “absolute joke”.
Carragher agrees with Southgate, as the jeers directed at the defender were “baffling”:
“Harry Maguire faces the greatest challenge of his career,” Carragher wrote for The Telegraph.
“For club and country, the perception of Maguire has turned extremely negative incredibly quickly. The sympathy of teammates and his managers does not alter the fact that Maguire has to fight for his future. Only one person can change the situation.
“Maguire has to show he has the talent and strength of character to stay at Manchester United beyond this season, and remain the lynchpin of England’s defence at the World Cup.
“The treatment he received from some England fans at Wembley on Tuesday night was baffling. Maguire has been outstanding in an England shirt.”
