EastEnders' Natalie Cassidy hints at exit after Sonia Fowler's dramatic arrest

Natalie Cassidy, known for her role as Sonia Fowler in EastEnders, has teased a possible exit for her character following the dramatic arrest on the show.

The long-standing character, who initially graced screens in 1993, quickly became etched into EastEnders' history as one of its most cherished figures, pivotal in many memorable plots.

In current episodes, Sonia is caught up in an intense plotline, with viewers still reeling from her arrest earlier this week, falsely accused of murdering Debbie - her fiance Reiss (portrayed by Jonny Freeman) comatose wife.

Reiss, entangled in money woes and escalating debt, actually caused his wife's demise. However, Thursday's gripping episode (August 22) saw a pregnant Sonia being held to account for the crime.

Reflecting on the dire situation facing her character, Natalie Cassidy hinted at a worsening condition for Sonia, reports the Daily Star.

Natalie explained it's Sonia's "worst nightmare coming true," adding: "She absolutely cannot believe it, especially when Reiss has been let off because he has an alibi."

The soap star shared her shock at the dark turn taken by Reiss' character, commenting: "To the point where she's going to go down for it, and he doesn't say, 'This was me, I did this.'".

Describing the reveal of Reiss' sinister nature, she remarked: "You are like, 'Oh my god, he's a psycho.' It's really shocking and dark; I look forward to seeing what happens next."

Natalie offered a cryptic hint about her character's fate on the show, saying: "Who knows? But she's got a lot of champions there on the Square."
