Channel 5's The Teacher stars EastEnders and The Tower legends

Channel 5's new psychological thriller, The Teacher, premieres tonight, September 9, and delves into the dark aftermath of a student's murder. The series follows an art teacher entangled in a web of desire and deceit as she tries to juggle her crumbling marriage with her professional responsibilities.

The plot thickens when "Unhappily married art teacher Dani Oxley starts an affair with colleague Jimmy while they are supervising a school trip to an adventure centre."

A lapse in judgment leads to dire consequences: "After leaving her students unattended to meet Jimmy in a boathouse, Dani gets back to find one of her charges is missing."

This second chapter in the anthology series spans four episodes, set to unfold over consecutive nights, culminating on Thursday, September 12.

As part of Channel 5's thrilling autumn lineup, Sebastian Cardwell, Head of Drama and Deputy Chief Content Officer, commented: "We're riding high on drama at Channel 5 and have an upcoming autumn schedule packed full of new series that our audience can get their teeth stuck into."

He promises a variety of genres, from detective mysteries to gripping dramas and psychological thrillers, all featuring a stellar cast of UK talent.

Leading the cast of The Teacher is Kara Tointon as Dani Oxley, the central character whose personal life is in turmoil. The 41 year old English actress is best known for her role as Dawn Swann in EastEnders.

In 2010, she clinched the title of BBC's Strictly Come Dancing alongside professional partner Mark Ramprakash.

She welcomed her first son in November 2018 with then-fiance Marius Jensen. Their second son was born in January 2021.

Jimmy is a character played by Will Mellor, who Dani has an affair with.
