East Kilbride were 'close to perfection' in Cowdenbeath triumph, says Mick Kennedy

Boss Mick Kennedy reckons his East Kilbride side were close to perfection on Saturday with their first half display in the 4-1 win at Cowdenbeath.

Kilby climbed up to second spot in the Lowland League with their fourth victory in five games so far, leaving them just a point off of leaders Celtic B.

Andrew McDonald’s double midway through the first half sent the visitors on their way to victory at Central Park, before Cowden pulled on back through Jake Sutherland after an hour.

However, Jack Leitch and Andy Stirling provided swift replies to put the game beyond the Blue Brazil, and Kennedy was delighted with how his side performed in the opening stages.

He beamed: “The first half is the best 45 minutes the team has had under me, in terms of how I want us to play. It was probably as close to perfection as I could ask for. It could have been anything in terms of a scorline with the number of opportunities we created.

“We were really comfortable and Matty [Connolly] has not had one save to make in the game. Their goal happens because our centre-half tries to beat somebody in the box instead of getting rid of it. We lose the ball, they square it to a player for an easy finish. Up until that point, we didn’t have anything to worry about.

“That is us five games in now – and I know Cumbernauld Colts beat us 2-1 – but we have dominated every game so I am really pleased with how things are going.

“We’ve always had a large spread of goals throughout the team. The difference this season I think will be that Cami Elliot is going to hit high numbers.

“He was unlucky not to score on Saturday with a couple of good opportunities and he hit the post as well, but he will get a lot of goals for us this season.”
