East Kilbride Thistle boss felt side deserved win after another dramatic fightback

Aaron Connolly admits he is gutted East Kilbride Thistle only got a point from their trip to Knightswood, despite coming back from the dead once again this season to pick up points.

The Jags put their manager through the wringer, trailing 3-1 after a Mitchell Rooney strike before goals from Ross Duncan and Jamie Scullion in the final three minutes salvaged an unlikely point.

It maintains their impressive start in the West of Scotland Fourth Division, where they have lost just once in eight games so far to sit sixth in the table, but Connolly felt his resilient side should have taken maximum points.

He said: “They like to make it tough for me on the sidelines.

“But I love working with this group of players. The character, resilience and the manner in which they approach games of football deserves huge commendation.

“They are never beaten in games.

“But, in the context of Saturday’s game, I can’t believe we haven’t won the game. We have conceded three poor goals from our perspective and we need to look at how we can correct that. Two are deflections and one was us being a bit slack in possession.

“We found ourselves in a precarious position at 3-1 down, but the players stuck to their principles, kept working hard, kept trying to make things happen and, on another day, we probably score a couple of more goals and come out of there with a win.

“I’m gutted for them that they didn’t win, but I’m pleased we got a point for our efforts. The form has been decent and the games where we have been down, we’ve come back with three late equalisers this season.
