East Kilbride Ice Skating Club stars enjoy medal delight in Denmark
East Kilbride Ice Figure Skating Club produced a magnificent medal-winning showing in Denmark recently, as members brought home a clutch of prizes from the Flyver Cup in Copenhagen.
The team, based at East Kilbride Ice Rink in the town’s shopping centre, took 14 skaters to the Tarrnby Skating Club for the international invitational event over February 1 and 2.
And seven of the skaters picked up podium places and medals for their efforts.
Competing against rivals from 14 different countries – France, Denmark, America, Netherlands, Norway, Taiwan, Canada, Mexico, Italy, Brazil, Sweden, Ukraine and Japan – juniors and adults battled it out for the prizes across various categories.
The youngest of the group was eight-year-old Charlotte Millar, who gained a bronze medal – her first international medal – and became the club’s youngest international medallist in the process, while the eldest EKIFSC star involved was 22-year-old Christie Shannon, who took silver in her category.
All the medallists were as follows:
Charlotte Millar (8 years) Cubs K category – bronze medal
Sienna Aleksavia (10 years) – Cubs M category – Silver Medal
Esme Statt (12 years) - Springs K1 category – Bronze medal
Charlotte Fairbairn (12 years) – Debs K2 category - Gold medal
Sarah Tunnicliffe (18 years) – Junior M ladies – silver medal
Cara McCabe (20 years) – Senior K1 ladies – Gold medal
Christie Shannon (22 years) – Senior M ladies – silver medal
