East Kilbride can wrap up Lowland League title TONIGHT after fixture unexpectedly slotted in
East Kilbride have been handed an unexpected chance to win the Lowland League tonight after a rearranged fixture was slotted in at short notice.
Mick Kennedy’s men battered Broomhill 6-1 on Saturday to move within a point of securing the title and Kilby will now travel to Edinburgh to face Civil Service Strollers at Christie Gillies Park, knowing a draw will see them officially crowned champions for the first time since 2018/19.
A place in the pyramid play-off for promotion to the SPFL will also be secured, but Kennedy has mixed emotions about the hastily-rearranged fixture which will make it difficult for fans to see their team wrap up a third Lowland crown, having previously earmarked a trip to Coatbridge to face Albion Rovers on April 2 for their big chance.
He said: “I don’t know what is going on, it’s madness.
“We got notice of it about a week ago and then there was a bit of discussion about when the fixture would take place.
“It was around the start of last week the fixture got confirmed.
“The league was trying to get us to play on the Tuesday after the Sunday game [with Broomhill] and we eventually got it moved to Wednesday.
“It’s not great for fans and our bus leaves at 4.45pm on the Wednesday for a 7.30pm kick-off, so it is a bit of a nightmare, but we just need to get on with it.
“It is one of these things that you need to accept, but it gives an opportunity to get the league won this week.”
The Strollers game was due to be played on Saturday, April 6, but with Kilby last week reaching the Lowland League Cup final on April 7 against Tranent at Broadwood, the clash with 10th-place Strollers has been slotted in.
The venue at Christie Gilles Park is one where Kilby have stuttered before, having drawn 1-1 there in
