Dylan Vente Hibs mystery solved as shock SURINAME call up U-turn explained
Dylan Vente won't be reporting for Suriname international duty this month after a squad announcement mix up.
The Hibs striker was surprisingly named in the South American nation's squad for their friendly against Martinique later in March. The former Dutch colony were due to meet up in Vente's homeland for a training camp to prepare for the game. However, after the initial announcement this morning, the squad was published again, this time minus the Easter Road hitman.
Vente is eligible for Suriname, but is understood not to have made a decision on his international future yet, and was called up prematurely. Voetbalzone report: “Vente could possibly play for Suriname in the future, but at the moment there is no question of an international career for the Natio. Inquiries reveal that the centre-forward does indeed have Surinamese roots, but sources around the player report that the rumour is 'not yet applicable'. Ultimately, the alleged selection turns out to be a misunderstanding.”
The £700,000 signing from Roda JC has hit seven goals in 32 appearances this season. He'll now remain with Nick Montgomery's squad over the international break as the Leith outfit prepare to battle it out with Dundee and Motherwell for the final remaining top six spot.
