DWP warns 'no more payments' from April for Brits getting Tax Credits
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has issued a stark warning that there will be "no more payments" of Tax Credits from April 6. The legacy benefit is due to cease with the conclusion of the current financial year on April 5, and those who have not yet lodged a claim for Universal Credit or Pension Credit will not receive any further payments.
The final Migration Notices were dispatched in October, providing existing Tax Credits recipients with a three-month notice period to submit a new claim for Universal Credit before their legacy benefit award terminates. Individuals currently receiving Tax Credits who have not yet applied for Universal Credit are urged to do so immediately, as they risk having their payments halted in April since the migration process is not automatic.
Last year, the DWP confirmed that over one million people are transitioning from the legacy benefits system to Universal Credit. The guidance states: "Tax credits end on April 5 2025. No more payments will be made after that. You'll be sent a letter if you are eligible for Universal Credit or Pension Credit instead."

Legacy benefits such as Tax Credits, Housing Benefit, Income Support, Jobseeker's Allowance and Income-Related Employment and Support Allowance are being phased out in an effort to consolidate government financial support into one centralised system, reports the Daily Record.
