DWP benefit claimants told to check bank accounts in seven days as deadline approaches

Brits are being urged to double check their bank accounts next week for a vital payment.

Throughout the winter period, millions of Brits will have already received up to £600 from the Department for Work and Pension's (DWP) Winter Fuel Payment. The payment, which was combined with the £300 Pensioner Cost of Living Payment, is being issued in response to the cost of living crisis.

While many eligible people would have already received the payment after the DWP said most payments would automatically be made last November and December, there could still be some waiting. If you are eligible, you should have received a letter informing you of how much you are owed from the Winer Fuel Payment and which bank account the money will be paid in.

The DWP has given itself a deadline of January 26 - next Thursday - to make all of the payments. Anyone who is eligible for a Winter Fuel Payment but hasn't received it by that date is urged to then contact the DWP.

In order to be considered eligible for the Winter Fuel Payment, you must have been born before September 25, 1957, and usually live in the UK. The amount you receive will be based on your circumstances between September 18 and September 24, 2023 - otherwise known as the 'qualifying week'.
