Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson v Roman Reigns: Reason major WWE WrestleMania match may not happen

After close to two years of speculation, a WWE WrestleMania dream match between The Rock and Roman Reigns may not happen next year.

We may still be over a month away from WrestleMania 38, but reports state that WWE already knows what its main event is going to be for WrestleMania 39 next year.

Reports have indicated that WWE is hoping to have Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson face Roman Reigns at next year’s huge show, but it’s now been questioned if that match is going to be able to go down.

It’s no secret that The Rock is one busy guy, given his commitments to his acting and sports careers, so a run in WWE in 2023 may not be possible.

On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer suggested that The Rock’s XFL working with the NFL means that the 49-year-old may no longer be able to do some work with WWE.

“Dwayne being all over next year promoting this thing (the XFL), which could be interesting because next year’s the WrestleMania that he was supposed to work with Roman Reigns, and that would be in April, and that’s probably gonna be the middle of the season.”

That isn’t all, as Meltzer explained that Rock won’t be able to have the big match if he has any movie commitments a few months either side of WrestleMania 39:

“If he’s got any kind of an action movie deal within a couple of months (of WrestleMania), let alone, if he’s got one that takes place during that period there’s no way he would do it (the match). If it’s even like a month or two after, they wouldn’t let him because the insurance and things like that would be too high. That’s why he never did another one.”
