Dundee weather forecast for Rangers clash as 4 hour downpour puts game on red alert DESPITE early pitch inspection

Dundee have announced a pitch inspection for 11am on Wednesday ahead of their clash with Rangers - but that could prove irrelevant with a four-hour downfall set to follow.

The sodden Dens Park pitch has fallen victim to the weather on four occasions this season and their original date with Gers had to be pushed back within two hours of kick-off owing to the Tayside conditions. The build-up to the rearranged game has been dominated by chat over whether it will be playable this time, with Philippe Clement calling for a final decision the night BEFORE to save him and his players a wasted trip.

Dundee chairman John Nelms moved to calm the panic by insisting the game should go ahead as planned and the Met Office weather forecast predicts dry conditions between Tuesday evening and the Wednesday morning pitch inspection. That is good news as the surface should get some respite overnight.

But it's a different story from 11am - with a downpour set to immediately follow the pitch inspection. The Met Office predict an 80-90 per cent chance of heavy rain during the four hours between the pitch inspection and 3pm. It's then set to batter the pitch for the duration of the game - meaning the match could be at serious risk regardless of how the surface looks at 11am.

A Dundee statement on the pitch inspection read: "Due to the recent heavy rain, it has been agreed that it is in the best interest of all parties if a pitch inspection takes place tomorrow morning at The Scot Foam Stadium in order that an early decision is communicated ahead of the evening match against Rangers.

"This pitch inspection will be conducted by the match referee. We will then announce the outcome of the inspection."
