Dundee v Motherwell: We're positive as we chase top six, admits Well boss

Motherwell go into Saturday’s clash against Dundee with a positive mind-set as they chase a Premiership top-six finish.

But boss Stuart Kettlewell warns that they need to be careful, because their season could go either way.

Winning at Dens Park – or wherever the game is staged , given uncertainty over Dundee’s pitch – would put them into a pre-split showdown at home to Hibs on April 16 to determine who finishes in the top half of the table.

While Kettlewell acknowledges that is a possibility, so too is being dragged into relegation trouble, with six points separating them from both sixth-placed Dundee and Ross County in 11th.

But he says focus has shifted slightly, because they know what can be achieved.

Kettlewell said: “We're striving to try and see if we can maximise the opportunity in the next two games, and six points are up for grabs.

“I’m not shouting my mouth off, I’m not saying we’re going to get top six, but let’s take a really positive mind-set into these next two games, starting on Saturday against Dundee.

“If you win one game of football, the situation might still be mathematically possible, going into one home game, and that’s all we can really control.

“We do need a favour or two in there, we need one or two aspects to go our way, but we can only concentrate on this game on Saturday.

“It’s going to be a tough one, a really difficult game for us, but I do think we’re going in on a pretty positive mind-set.

“I’m speaking about it being mathematically possible about the top six, so we can make that argument going the other way.

“I’m certainly not going to say we find ourselves in a really comfortable position, because any time you think you’re comfortable or come off your levels, or don’t prepare properly
