Dundee TV commentator hails Antonio Portales for Aberdeen challenge 'Donald Trump would be proud of'

Dundee's club TV channel has sparked internet hilarity after their commentator invoked Donald Trump to applaud Mexican defender Antonio Portales.

The Dee picked up a big 1-0 Premiership win over Aberdeen on Wednesday night with Luke McCowan's 66th minute penalty enough to fire them into the top six - and leave the Dons looking anxiously over their shoulders at a relegation battle. But it's a moment late in the first half that's gathered viral social media attention.

It came when Dons winger Junior Hoilett broke down the left only to run into Mexican defender Portales. He rarely shirks a challenge and didn't here, clattering into the Canadian to take man and ball and stop the attack in is tracks. And Dundee TV's lead commentator was left impressed. In a moment that's since been clipped and shared far and wide on X, he said: "The Mexican is an absolute wall there. Donald Trump would be proud of that."

The quip is of course a nod to disgraced former US president Donald Trump and his infamous campaign to 'build a wall' on the border with Mexico. Construction on that was paused shortly after he lost the 2021 election, with the wall just a quarter of the way complete.
