Dundee rue 'definite' Fashion Sakala Rangers red card amid Cammy Kerr flashpoint

Dundee boss Gary Bowyer believes Rangers striker Fashion Sakala should have been sent off after a second half flashpoint with Cammy Kerr.

The Zambian and Kerr were both booked by referee Willlie Collum but the Dens Park boss is adamant it should have been red for the Zambian international who appeared to kick out at his opponent. But the winger was able to see out the game as the Ibrox side huffed and puffed to a 1-0 win over the Championship side to book their place in the last four of the Premier Sports Cup. Rangers will face Aberdeen for a spot in the Final.

Speaking after the game, Bowyer said: "There are lessons for us to take going into the remainder of our campaign. But I think that the game could've changed had the lad (Sakala) been sent off. Which, looking back at it, we feel that he's kicked out at Cammy Kerr. We definitely feel it should've been a red card."

And the Englishman was left with a tinge of regret after Dundee pushed Rangers all the way on a night when the home support were left miffed by their side's toiling efforts. He added: "We're proud of what the players did tonight, but it's tinged with the feeling of, we could've done more," he added.

"From what I've seen from us since I came in the building in the summer, we feel a little bit... (disappointed). In terms of our organisation and how we kept them at bay, it's pleasing. I feel like we could've tested Jon McLaughlin more. Listen, they're top players that we're playing against but we thought we'd have opportunities.

"Then it's about being positive and making better decisions, and in the end Jordan McGhee's header is a good opportunity. I'm pleased at certain aspects, but we need to tidy up on others going into our league campaign. What
