Football Manager 2023 Exclusive: Miles Jacobson reveals his favourite FM22 story

Miles Jacobson, the director of Football Manager, has revealed his favourite story from FM 2022 and it includes a wonderkid who took Watford to the Champions League final!

The gaffer at Sports Interactive sat down to talk with GiveMeSport about all things FM ahead of the release of FM23 on November 8th.

That game is coming not just to PC, but also to Xbox, Apple Arcade, and PS5, and the beta for the new game on PC will release two weeks prior.

As anyone who has played Football Manager will know, part of the joy of the game is unearthing hidden gems and taking them to stardom.

And it appears that Miles is just like the rest of us when it comes to giving wonderkids a chance and hoping it pays off.

Miles is a self-confessed Watford fan and it appears that he took on the challenge of taking them to the very top of the game last year.

And he happened to unearth a player from Portugal whom he signed before he even turned 18, and he went on to become a Hornets legend.

From Miles’ description, it appears that he was an unbelievable footballer, who even outstripped the great Cristiano Ronaldo.

Speaking exclusively to GMS, Miles said: “I had a young player who came through my Watford team called Bernardo Portal, who I took a punt on. He grew up in Portugal. I signed him before his 18th birthday, and he joined me in the transfer window afterwards. And he was with me until he retired.

“A fantastic player who, early on in his career, wanted to be a striker, and then moved out to being an inside left. We went on a really long journey together, getting into the Champions League, but didn't quite win the Champions League, we got to the final a couple
