Dundee issue Rangers fixture update as John Nelms drops another date into the mix

Dundee supremo John Nelms insists the club have no contingency plans in place other than rearranging the fixture if Wednesday night's Premiership clash with Rangers is unable to go ahead because of damage to the Dens Park turf.

Despite Record Sport revealing contingency plans, the Dundee supremo is putting a brave face on doubts surrounding the fixture as he floated another option to play the game – if the fixture falls for a second time. Dundee and other parts of the north east of Scotland have suffered from huge downpours of rainfall in the last week, sparking fears that the visit of Rangers in Tayside will once again fall foul to the weather.

It comes just days after the Dee's league fixture against Motherwell - which ended in a dramatic 3-2 victory for the visitors - passed a pitch inspection despite the concerns raised by Steelmen boss Stuart Kettlewell over the safety of the players on the field. But ahead of the Premiership clash on Wednesday night that could see Rangers return to the league summit with just one game to go until the split, Nelms is adamant that the Dens Park turf will be able to hold up enough for the game to be played.

If the game was to be postponed again, Nelms also stated that the club would be pushing for the fixture to be rearranged before the post-split fixtures get underway on the weekend of April 27-28. Asked about the prospect of playing the game at a neutral venue with no fans, Nelms told Sky Sports: "Absolutely not. We want to play with our fans and their fans.

"That's the reason why we do it as we are an entertainment business. There are no other contingency plans from our side other than the 16/17th. Luckily the split doesn't start until the 27th so we still have the 16/17th next
