Dundalk owners hit out at 'half-truths and falsehoods'

Dundalk FC's owners have issued an update regarding potential investment in the club, stating that "talks are ongoing."

Sean O'Connor, Andy Connolly, Alan Clarke have responded to rumours of a potential takeover, after speculation grew online that the club was on the verge of a takeover.

"Dundalk Football Club can confirm that talks over potential investment in the club are ongoing," begins the statement issued on Thursday night.

"We are hopeful that these talks will conclude in the very near future. It is not possible for us to address all the rumours that are spreading around town and on social media. Many of them are a mixture of pure speculation, half-truths and simple falsehoods.

"However, we recognise that many of these rumours are due to a deep concern by supporters regarding the welfare of the club.

"We would ask for some space to conclude the discussions that we hope will bring Dundalk FC into an exciting new era.

"In the meantime, we would ask everyone to put their sole focus on the team, starting with our final home game of the season against Bohemians on Friday night.

"Please get behind Stephen [O'Donnell] and the players so we can achieve as high a finish as possible this season."

Earlier this year, Dundalk were in talks with Hull City owner Acun Ilicali over a potential takeover, but Ilicali has since invested in Shelbourne.

The Lilywhites sit sixth in the SSE Airtricity Men's Premier Division with two games to go and still have an outside chance of securing European football for next season.
