Dundalk lose appeal over Robbie Benson red card
Dundalk have failed in a bid to have Robbie Benson's red card against Shamrock Rovers overturned following.
An independent Appeal Committee of the FAI heard the appeal today following his high challenge on Lee Grace after 31 minutes of the encounter in Oriel Park.
The Lilywhites went on to lose the game 4-0, with manager Stephen O’Donnell believing referee Arnold Hunter had made the wrong decision in dismissing the experienced midfielder.
Benson will serve a two-match suspension, starting on Friday against Sligo Rovers.
It’s a setback for Dundalk given the 30-year-old was just returning from injury.
Meanwhile DLR Waves’ Isobel Flanagan will be banned for three matches after her red card against Bohemians last Wednesday.
Waves appealed the decision but were also unsuccessful.
