Dumfries pool teams narrowly miss out on Scottish national titles

It’s been a busy couple of weeks for Dumfries pool, as both A and B teams narrowly missed out on 11-person national titles.

The Super 11’s, run by the Scottish Pool Association involve the best 11- person teams from across Scotland, playing across four divisions across four different weekends.

The Dumfries B team, playing in Division One for the first time following promotion last year, travelled to Pettycur Bay resort in Fife over the weekend of February 23 to 25. The team came through a strong group stage, and overcame Arbroath, Ayr & District and Whitburn in the knockout stage, before being beaten 6-3 by a strong Thurso team in what was an exciting final.

Securing the runners-up spot means the team have secured back to back promotions and will be competing in the Premier Division of the Super 11’s next year.

Alongside the B team next year will be Dumfries A, who were playing in the Premier 11’s event last weekend.

Coming through a difficult group losing only one match, the team overcame a gallant Perth team before dispatching Central Ayrshire and Falkirk to reach the Premier final. Unfortunately, the same fate awaited them as the B team, as the team from Dundee proved too strong, coming out on top 6-4.

Two fantastic achievements in back to back weekends for the Dumfries Pool League.

Dumfries C Team take part in the third division event over the weekend of March 22, and we wish them all the best as they battle it out for the title.
