Dumfries business continues sponsorship of curling team

A Dumfries-based business is sponsoring a local curling team for a third year.

Architectural practice Aitken Turnbull is supporting Team Leigh for the season ahead as the girls – Jodi-Leigh Bass (17), Katie Archibald (18), Cara Davidson (19) and Alex McMillan (18) compete in competitions in Copenhagen and Stockholm later this year.

All four team members have progressed from the Regional Academy and were selected by the Scottish Curling selection process to form a new rink as part of the Scottish Curling National Curling Academy.

Aitken Turnbull office coordinator, Kat Bass, who is grandmother to skip, Jodi-Leigh, said: “We wish Team Leigh all the very best. The commitment and dedication the four girls put into their sport greatly impressed us and we were delighted to help with sponsorship. They are a fantastic bunch who simply want to be the best they can be and show visible progression as a team.”

Jodi-Leigh, said: “We are a junior team and sponsorship means a great deal to us. Without it we would struggle to take part in the events and Aitken Turnbull’s support helps us with this.

“This helps towards not just our entry fees and kit but also contributes towards travel, accommodation and ice hire for our team training which improves our development. It also helps reduce the worry about funding allowing us to concentrate on the sport we are so passionate about.

“We have a lot of events this season and are particularly looking forward to upcoming trips to Copenhagen and Stockholm.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for us to learn from strong competitors on the international circuit.”
