Dumfries and Galloway's Team GB curlers claim gold at Winter Youth Olympics
Three curlers from Dumfries and Galloway have claimed gold at the Winter Youth Olympics.
Dalbeattie’s Logan Carson skipped the rink, which featured Tia Laurie and Archie Hyslop from Dumfries as well as Holly Burke from Hamilton, to a dramatic victory in yesterday’s final.
The Team GB curlers took an early lead but the Danes scored four in the second end to put themselves in control.
However, their opponents fought back and the scores were level again after the fifth end.
A single put Team GB in front before the final end, only for Denmark to score one.
That forced an extra end, with two giving Team GB – featuring Dalbeattie High School pupil Logan and St Joseph’s College pair Tia and Archie – the gold medal.
It capped a fine week for the team, who won six of their seven games and beat China 8-6 in Thursday’s semi-final.
