Dumbarton's Carlo Pignatiello determined to mark 100th Sons game with victory

Carlo Pignatiello will make his 100th Dumbarton appearance this weekend against Queen of the South - and is determined to mark it with three points.

The versatile wide-man is in his second spell in G82, after initially joining the club on loan from Livingston in 2021.

That was a mixed campaign for the 24-year-old - as the Sons were relegated but he was named the club’s Young Player of the Year.

Having played a key role in promotion back to League One last year, he’s now fully focused on keeping the club in the third tier.

Carlo told the Lennox: “Last season was a tough season. We had a lot of injuries; our captain was injured for most of the season, Ryan Wallace played most of the season but left, Matthew Shiels left half way through. It was a hard season.

“There were times where we weren’t doing well. But we stuck with it. And it was good to get the club back to the level they should be at - or higher.

“We’ve not looked out of place. In every single game we’ve at least held our own. We’ve now had six draws and a defeat, and the defeat was probably the game that we deserved to win the most.

“It’s one of those things. We’ve got to move on to Queen of the South this week and try and pick up our first three points.

“When you play as well as we did on Saturday and don’t win you try to take the positives. But it’s a wee bit frustrating.

“We won’t play that well every week and be that dominant. So you have to be winning those games.

“But that’s also credit to Montrose. That is why they are challenging for promotion every year, because they are able to win games like that. They are always able to grind out results and have good individual players with quality at the top end.
