Dumbarton 1-0 Peterhead - Ruth nets superb winner in impressive victory for Sons

Michael Ruth’s second-half thunderbolt was enough to earn Dumbarton a first victory against Peterhead of the season.

The former Aberdeen youngster arrowed in a superb effort from the edge of the box to secure a priceless three points for the Sons, who could move up to second in the League Two table if they can beat Stranraer tonight (Tuesday).

And boss Stevie Farrell said he was always confident the goal was coming, after a dominant showing from the home side.

Faz said: “I thought we were calm today. The crowd was calm and that helped the players, there was a real calmness throughout the stadium.

“We deserved the three points. We were on top for most of the game.

“Sometimes you can think that it’s not going to be your day when there’s chance after chance coming and going. But I didn’t think that, and I don’t think our fans did either.

“The goal we scored was probably the hardest chance of them all. But I was delighted to get another important three points.”
