Duff banned from touchline for three matches after red card in Oriel

Shelbourne manager Damien Duff has received a three-match suspension for his sending-off against Dundalk at Oriel Park.

Duff was sent from the sidelines by referee Paul McLaughlin. Three red cards were shown on the night, one to each side, with Duff receiving two yellows in quick succession.

The Shels boss was seen in conversation with the fourth official which led to the first yellow, and a second soon followed.

Earlier this season Shels coach Alan Quinn received a four-match ban after being sent from the technical area during the win over Derry. He is still serving that ban.

Asked why he felt he was dismissed, former Chelsea star Duff told the Irish Mirror after the game: "I don't know. Listen, I’ll soon find out. I’m sure there will be e-mails back and forth - I did this, I did that.

"I’ve had that with Alan Quinn after the Derry game. You are pushed to the limit.

"I always heard that, reading the media, you are pushed to the limit but you are not allowed to speak. You are muzzled somewhat.

"I’m not allowed to criticise, so I won’t. Even if I thought it was the worst… if I thought it was the worst refereeing performance I’ve ever seen, I couldn’t comment on it. So I’ll just pass on what I thought of them.

"Generally over the season, two penalties, it was all over social media, two penalties at Bohs, constant decisions, it all tots up and costs you points.

"Listen, we’ll move on. We are a tight-knit group."

Duff’s Shelbourne host Sligo Rovers on Friday night where the touchline duties will be left to assistant and fellow former Republic of Ireland international Joey O’Brien.
