DSTV, GOtv to broadcast AFCON as CAF concludes extensive global agreements

DSTV and GOtv have announced that they would broadcast matches of the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations, which kicks off on Saturday in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

This is coming on the heels of the announcement by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Wednesday that it has concluded extensive global broadcast agreements with TV-Broadcasting Rights Holders from Africa, Europe, Asia, South America, North America and the Caribbean ahead of the kick-off of AFCON 2023.

According to a source at Multichoice Ltd, which is the parent body of the outfits, DSTV and GOtv channels will broadcast the AFCON 2023 matches beginning this weekend.

Meanwhile, CAF has listed its global TV-broadcast partners to include Sky (United Kingdom), BBC (United Kingdom), LaLiga+ (Spain), SportItalia (Italy), Sport Digital (Germany & Switzerland), SportTV (Portugal), Viaplay (Nordics) and Band TV (Brazil).

It said that beIN Sport, CANAL+, New World TV and approximately 45 Free To Air broadcasters have also concluded partnership agreements with CAF and this will result in the AFCON being broadcast in approximately 180 countries.

CAF said it received approximately 6000 media applications for accreditation to the championship, which is an increase of more than 100 per cent from the previous AFCON in Cameroon in 2022.
