Drunk spotted leaving bar and driving off is banned from the roads

A drunk driver who was almost three times over the limit when stopped by officers has been disqualified.

Wesley Redshaw, 45, leaving a bar in Altrincham on the evening of January 24, 2022, before getting into a car and driving off.

Officers from GMP Trafford responded to the reports before performing a ‘pre-emptive, reinforced’ stop on Redshaw’s vehicle. After being stopped, police said Redshaw initially failed to provide a roadside breath test and was subsequently arrested.

A later positive sample gave a reading of 95 - almost three times over the legal alcohol limit of 35.

Redshaw was charged with the offence and appeared in court the next day, where he was handed an interim driving disqualification and bailed for sentencing.

Appearing at court on Tuesday (March 1), Redshaw, of Chadwick Road in St Helens, was disqualified from driving for 36 months and fined £50. He also received a community order for treatment for alcohol dependency under the direction of a nine-month probation.

In a statement, GMP Trafford said: “The officers involved would like to take this opportunity to thank the member of the public for making the report, leading to a safe stop of the vehicle and the driver being arrested.

“We would also like to remind the community that if you suspect someone is driving whilst unfit, report it. We will act, we will stop them and we will arrest them.”
