DOZENS arrested after incriminating haul found as police storm homes in Greater Manchester borough

A total of 30 people have been arrested following a series of police raids across Bury.

Huge amounts of cash, drugs and weapons were seized as officers stormed properties in Radcliffe, Unsworth and Whitefield on Thursday. At one address, police burst inside to find a haul of weapons, including machetes, zombie knives and an imitation firearm.

The raids were carried out as part of Operation AVRO, a Greater Manchester Police (GMP) forcewide initiative where a particular area of the region is flooded with police resources each month

During the operation, £12,000 worth of illegal goods were also seized from businesses. They included 912 illegal vapes and 4,240 cigarettes.

Meanwhile, a police traffic operation uncovered 71 traffic offences and 56 speeding offences. One person was arrested while six prohibition notices were issued and three vehicle seized.

Chief Superintendent Chris Hill, GMP's Commander for Bury, said: “Operation AVRO is our opportunity to intensify our resources across Greater Manchester by taking the fight to the criminal and keeping people in the borough of Bury safe.

“The only way we can take criminals off the streets is by information from the public, and all the activity we executed yesterday is all garnered in this way, so than you to those who have given us such intelligence.

“We’ve arrested 30 people, taken vehicles off the road and our actions, with help from our partners, have seen some significant results across the Bury district.”
