Dover Athletic's Mike Sandmann looks ahead to National League South trip to Cheshunt

Mike Sandmann thinks Dover tonight will have to be at their best if they are to earn a victory at struggling Cheshunt.

Mid-table Whites are in reasonable form, losing just two of their last 13 National League South fixtures, after a 1-1 draw at home on Saturday with St Albans.

“It’ll be really tricky. It’s going to be tough,” said Sandmann who is Dover’s first-team coach this season, as well as their Academy manager, ahead of the trip.

“Cheshunt are going to make it extremely tough for us on the night so we will have to be at our best. It’s about us putting a performance in.

“We were resilient against Hampton & Richmond last Saturday [winning 2-0 on the road].

“The pitch will be tough due to the weather but, hopefully, we can build on Saturday’s performance and turn one point into three.”

Against St Albans at Crabble, winger Luke Wanadio, who had been ill during the week, put Whites ahead from the penalty spot in the 27th minute.

The visitors equalised - also from the spot - five minutes before half-time through leading scorer Shaun Jeffers.

Jeffers had the chance to double the lead with a third penalty of the match but he saw his effort superbly saved by Dover’s experienced goalkeeper Stuart Nelson as the match finished level.

Defender Jake Goodman (hamstring) misses his second consecutive game at Cheshunt.

But fellow defender Will Moses is back in the away side’s matchday squad after recovering from an illness which saw him withdrawn late on from Saturday’s starting line-up.

Andy Hessenthaler’s men start the day 12th while Cheshunt are third-bottom after they played out a goalless weekend draw at basement boys Weymouth.
