Dover Athletic manager Jake Leberl reacts to 1-1 National League South draw against Weston-super-Mare at Crabble

Boss Jake Leberl was disappointed with Dover’s decision-making in the build-up to the goal they conceded in their draw against promotion-chasing Weston-super-Mare on Saturday.

Whites, returning to action for the first time in 11 days, played out a 1-1 draw against their visitors, who find themselves in the National League South play-off places.

Defender Jacob Mensah put Leberl’s team into the lead but that advantage lasted just minutes before the experienced Luke Coulson - formerly of Ebbsfleet and Dartford - levelled from the penalty spot after referee Dan Blades ruled midfielder Bivesh Gurung to have fouled left-sided player Will Dawes.

“It was a really difficult game against a really good side,” said Leberl, whose troops host title-chasing Hornchurch on Tuesday. “They’re sixth for a reason and we’re happy with a point at the end of it.

“But as I’ve just said to George (Nikaj), I’m really disappointed with the manner of their goal - not the penalty itself - but the decision-making that led to the penalty, especially after we had just scored. It’s really schoolboy stuff, making wrong decisions.

“When you go a goal up, you just want to turn them around, be tight and frustrate them for a period. So to let one in soon after we had scored, that was frustrating and, obviously, that gives them a bit of a gee-up.

“I thought they were a good side. We were defending corner after corner at the end of it so we’re more than happy with a point.

“It’s been a really tough period and we have another tough one coming up on Tuesday. I think we have played something like six out of the top seven in our last seven or eight games.
