Dover Athletic boss Jake Leberl says there is more to come from some of the club’s returning players ahead of opening pre-season friendly at former side Margate

Manager Jake Leberl reckons there is more to come from some of Dover’s returning players.

Whites headed back for pre-season training in midweek ahead of a first friendly this summer at Margate this Saturday.

While Leberl has already significantly strengthened his ranks, including bringing back defender John Oyenuga, he also predicts the likes of defender Harry Beadle and forward Decarrey Sheriff will go from strength-to-strength in their second campaign at the club.

Leberl said: “When I look back to my own career, it did take a bit of time to settle in at a new club.

“People like your Sheriffs and Beadles did okay last year - but there’s more to come from those boys. We’re going to try and do things a little bit more professionally.

“Hopefully, we can kick on, although we’re fully aware of the league that we are competing in.

“There’s clubs with some real ambition we are up against.”

The National League South side’s summer recruitment is not done yet. Leberl hasn’t ruled out potentially heading into the loan market, either, but would prefer not to.

“There’s still quite a lot of business to be done,” he admitted.

“There’s a few positions we have a few trialists in and we still need to try and do a few deals with players that were here last season. It will be nice to be done and settled.

“Obviously, we have lost a few but, also, we have got a few over the line. We’re still slightly short but we’re relatively pleased.

“It’s always a difficult time of year. There’s a lot of players that are interested in trialling higher.

"They will - like they do every year - start to become available.

“Also, you cannot take them all. It’s that fine line between taking someone and waiting on for a bit.
