Dover Athletic assistant manager Mike Sandmann hopeful the National League South side’s summer rebuild will be complete by end of the week

Assistant manager Mike Sandmann is hopeful Dover’s squad could be complete by the end of this week.

Sandmann says they are two players away from finalising their summer rebuild, having already signed the likes of defenders Nazir Bakrin, John Oyenuga and Trent Rendall, midfielders Euan Williams and Dequane Wilson-Braithwaite, plus striker Kola Salami.

While the National League South side are prepared to be patient, Sandmann is optimistic it won’t take that long to complete the Crabble club’s final summer signings.

Sandmann said: “To be honest, we have not had a huge amount of trialists.

“We know what we’re still after. We feel that we’re two positions short. We’re actively trying to bring people in, in the background, in those certain positions.

“Hopefully, we can be a little bit closer to having a complete squad by the weekend.

“It might take longer than that but we’re hoping to be getting closer to having a full squad by the end of the week. We’re grateful to the chairman [Jim Parmenter] for the support he is giving us.

“Then, we can crack on. We haven’t had lots of trialists in, which is a positive.

“We have only really had trialists in the positions we want to strengthen in.”

Rendall, 24, has signed from Dagenham & Redbridge after he has spent his youth-team career at Arsenal and then Queens Park Rangers.

“We have been speaking with Trent in the background for a good month or so,” revealed Sandmann, who has also seen young goalkeeper Lewis Bartlett sign first-team terms and right-back Roman Charles-Cook get retained. “He’s someone we will feel will give us strength at the back.

“Even though he’s a young player, he looks like a good leader. He can play in a few different positions, as well.
