Dover Athletic 0 Gillingham 3 - Pre-season match report from the Megger Community Stadium

A mixed night for Gillingham at Dover saw them ease to victory but leave with injury concerns.

Kadeem Harris scored the opener in Tuesday night’s pre-season friendly, with second-half goals from Louie Dayal and Sam Gale completing a 3-0 win for The Gills, but there was a worry early on when Bradley Dack limped off.

National South side Dover Athletic were already in the pre-season flow, heading into the midweek game off the back of a 3-1 victory over Cray Wanderers on the Saturday.

Whites boss Jake Leberl was keen to maintain the winning mentality after kicking off their friendly schedule with a 1-0 win over Margate, 10 days earlier.

Decarrey Sheriff, Luke Baptiste and former Gills man Euan Williams saw the Whites come from behind to win their weekend match, cancelling out Cray’s penalty opener.

Gillingham’s new signings were on show at Crabble.

Of the seven summer additions, six were involved, although goalkeeper Ollie Wright was missing after picking up an injury. Garath McCleary, Cameron Antwi, Ethan Coleman and Remeao Hutton were also absent.

Dack started but limped off with 27 minutes played, to be replaced by second-year apprentice Sullivan Booth.

The one trialist playing in midfield for the Gills during the opening half was former Shrewsbury Town man Nick Freeman, playing an advanced role and getting around the pitch well.

New signing Liam Gordon captained the Gills in the opening half, lining up as a vocal and proper physical presence in a back three, alongside Andy Smith and Logan Dobbs. Harris and Damien Theodore started as wing-backs.

It was a fine run and finish from Harris to open the scoring on 14 minutes, cutting in from the flank and beating his man before bending a shot beyond the reach of Mitch Walker.
