Douglas Luiz reveals 'ambitions' amid Arsenal links as Aston Villa face free transfer decision

Here are your latest Aston Villa transfer headlines on Thursday, February 24.

Douglas Luiz was heavily linked with a transfer away from Aston Villa in January with Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United all reportedly interested.

The 23-year-old's future at Villa Park has come under question as he enters the final 12 months of his contract at the end of the season.

Luiz was reportedly the subject of multiple offers in January, but Villa declined those approaches and hope to pin him down to a new deal soon.

Asked about his ambitions with Villa, the midfielder said in Villa's matchday programme: "My ambitions are to continue as I am: to help the team, to play every game.

"We know there are many games at the moment and it's quite difficult to maintain a high level throughout the season because of fatigue, because of injuries.

"My objective is to maintain a high level, to score goals, to get assists and to help the team in every way that I can."

James Milner could leave Liverpool this summer amid reported interest from Aston Villa and other Premier League clubs.

The ex-Villa midfielder made 126 of his 800 total career appearances in claret and blue during a career at the top that has spanned two decades.

According to football journalist and European transfer expert Ekrem Konur, Milner could return to Villa Park in the summer for free.

Konur said on Twitter: "Aston Villa and Crystal Palace want to sign James Milner on a free transfer."

But in an update provided by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are keen to extend Milner's stay
