Aston Villa told two transfers can convince star to snub big move

Aston Villa defender Matty Cash continues to be linked with a move away from Villa Park.

Spanish champions Atletico Madrid are said to be keen on the 24 year-old, but BirminghamLive has spoken to those around the player who insist it is Villa where his immediate future lies.

Cash, who scored in Thursday night's 3-0 win at Leeds United, is being eyed-up as a potential replacement for Kierain Trippier with Atletico sanctioning the England star's move to Newcastle United in January.

A £14 million signing from Nottingham Forest in September 2020, Cash is the only Villa player to have started every game this season.

Villa do not have an out-and-out right-back who could replace Cash if he were to leave, and while there are high hopes for Kaine Kesler Hayden, he remains untested in the Premier League.

Former Leeds and Manchester City defender Danny Mills thinks the best way to convince a player like Cash to remain at Villa is to make a splash in the summer transfer window.

"It’s a risk going abroad if you don’t speak the language," Mills told the website Football Insider.

“Trippier did well over there and won La Liga. Atletico are in a little bit of a state of flux at the moment.

"Why would you want to leave Villa?

"They've got some really good signings in, a really good young manager doing well and the money to go to the next level.

"If they get Philippe Coutinho in permanently, you've already got the likes of Ollie Watkins in there too, and they brought in Lucas Digne as well.

"Everybody has had a lift from Coutinho and Gerrard. A couple more signings, and there’s no reason why they can't challenge for the top-six.
