Dorgu signs, problem fixed, Rashford exit - Man United must seal six transfers before deadline

Manchester United now have less than a week to fine-tune their squad ahead of the remainder of the season.

The January transfer window will slam shut at 11pm on Monday evening, meaning from that moment onwards Ruben Amorim will have to work with what he's got until the window reopens in the summer.

The Portuguese head coach is yet to add anyone to the squad he inherited from Erik ten Hag back in November, with outgoings so far dominating transfer activity at Old Trafford this month. The headline move so far has seen Antony join Real Betis on loan.

But with five days to go until the window closes, United need to try and ramp up the level of activity further, both in terms of incomings and outgoings.

Patrick Dorgu

As reported by the Manchester Evening News on Tuesday, United are continuing to work on a deal to sign Lecce wing-back Dorgu. Talks have been ongoing over the past week or so and United's director of transfer negotiations Matt Hargreaves and Base Soccer intermediaries Leon Angel and Frank Trimboli met Lecce officials last week.

United are desperate to strengthen their left-sided wing-back options ahead of the bell and Dorgu has been earmarked as an ideal candidate. The Denmark international, 20, has caught the eye in Serie A this season and is deemed a suitable fit for Amorim's 3-4-2-1 system.

United have been without a natural left-sided full-back/wing-back for much of the season, making the pursuit of Dorgu logical. Getting a deal done for him would make him the first piece in the Amorim jigsaw.

A striker

With Rasmus Hojlund on a run of 11 games without a goal and Joshua Zirkzee scoring just once in his last 14 appearances, the need for a striker has never been greater. United do not have a reliable No.9
